Tell us a little more about this drought, aside from the "could be the precursor to even drier days ahead". Those of you who fancy yourselves as science writers seem to only have one story: extrapolation from short-term conditions. Absolutely useless, needlessly alarmist. Since these are not our local conditions, I don't have a feel for what tends to happen over the long term. That's why we rely on writers (you) to do that research for us. But if you can't - or won't - give us a bit more complete picture, perhaps you should not be in this job.
